Emf induced in a coil by changing both the magnetic field passing through it
and its area - Faraday's Law.

This (Quicktime) animation shows that an emf (and current) is induced in a coil if the flux through the coil increases due to a change in both the magnitude of the magnetic field passing through it and the area of the coil. It shows also the basic idea underlying an a.c. generator. Download the animation (7.1MB).
